“the USA government must leave history to the historians, and make it right.”

The Senate of Nişantaşı University condemned the claims for “the so-called Armenian Genocide” accepted in the USA House of Representatives in the previous day. Rector of the university, Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, stated that the USA government must make it right about this issue, and rejected this smear campaign in spite of historical facts.

Rector of Nişantaşı University, Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, criticized the fact that claims for the So-called Armenian Genocide were accepted by the USA House of Representatives in a prejudiced and preconceived way on the basis of no historical documents, proof or archived study, and said, “This situation is a move aiming to leave our country in the lurch before international communities. On the other hand, State of the Republic of Turkey defended repeatedly that archives must be opened, and the history must be left to scientists, not to politicians, insisting on writing a history based on the facts. However, holders of this claim about the so-called genocide avoid facing scientific facts and aim at political speculation. These speculative moves aiming to punish Turkey’s gains in international platforms damage the alliance and strategical partnership bonds between the USA and Turkey. We hope that our relationship with its origins in the 20th century will not be sacrificed to a minor group’s search for its own political benefits, and the USA will make this right again, and kindly invite the USA government to the neutral zone of the history. As the Senate of Nişantaşı University, we condemn this draft resolution on “the so-called Armenian Genocide”.
