Nişantaşı University held a '2018 Prospects in the Economy and Financial Markets' conference at the Maslak 1453 Neotech Campus. Bloomberg HT Program Producer and Presenter Barış Esen moderated the conference in which Faculty Member Trakya University Prof. Dr. Sadi Uzunoğlu and Marmara University Faculty member Prof. Dr. Burak Arzova, Journalist-Writer Aslı Şafak and Noor CM Domestic Markets Sales Manager Mert Yılmaz attended. At the conference, the topics such as how unpredictable world order and uncertainty was reflected in the money market, inflation, Turkey-EU relations and their impact on the economy.

"ECONOMIC REFORMS WILL NOT BE IMPLEMENTED IN THE YEARS 2018 AND 2019"

By emphasizing that threshould be good relations with Europe, Marmara University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Burak Arzova stated that there was no major problem in America in 2018 in terms of economy and said:

"There are certain inflation targets and they are approaching these targets. We speak America and Europe because we are not independent of them. The world is in communication with each other. The developments at the most extreme of the world affects us all. Relations with the European Union (EU) are very important. Being able to achieve the economic and political superiority provided by the EU is through devoting itself to that path. Close relationship with Europe is very important with regard to Turkey provide its future vision. As countries and individuals, we act impulsively and take our reactions without thinking of the next step. So, we lose the gains that we can win. It is necessary to be calm and think rationally. 2018 and 2019 will be an electoral year, so I think none of the economic reforms will be implemented. An expansionary policy will be followed."

"THE BIGGEST RISK IS OUR WEAKNESSES AND INTERESTS"

In her speech at the conference, journalist-writer Aslı Şafak said that it is not possible to try to understand the world order without being aware of your own selfness. Şafak said, "We are trying to live without investing in our own technology, neglecting our individual duties and throwing all the blame into the system. Donald Trump, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Vladimir Putin are not different from each other, they are trying to win in their own time. We are chasing our own gains, so we are not different as well. They are what we are. That's why I think the biggest risk of the world is our weaknesses and interests."

"WE SHOULD DEVELOP EXPORT BASED GROWTH MODEL"

By saying that the biggest uncertainty is the fight against inflation in the economy, Noor CM Domestic Markets Sales Manager Mert Yılmaz said, “I think there is a maturity mismatch in the period we are in. The growth trend has been caught and it is predicted that it will continue in 2018. Growth is important, but we have come to crossroads for us. Turkey will grow or is it gonna be fighting inflation? The uneasiness I have considered from the growth of the country's economy is that it contains other risks. We need to implement agriculture and animal husbandry, education policies and an export-based growth model. Because we import almost everything.”

‘’ CRISIS IS NOT EXCEPTION TO THE ECONOMY, IT ALWAYS HAPPEN"

In the beginning of his speech, Trakya University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Sadi Uzunoğlu told the participants about the 1979 film Being There (Hello World), and said that the cyclical changes are temporary. He explained the effects of these changes on the economy in the long term. Prof. Dr. Uzunoğlu said, "If the ground is solid, we will not lose hope. The crisis is not an exception to the economy, it always happens."
