Fırat Neziroğlu, “Free Fabric Outside the Norm” at Design Week Turkey

Hosted for the third time by Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) in coordination with Ministry of Commerce for the purpose of creating a design culture and to introduce Turkish designers to the world, Design Week Turkey 2018 was held in Haliç Congress Center on November 16th-18th. This year’s theme for the event which unites Turkey in design was ‘Design Ecosystem.’ The event, which hosted people with global renown in the past, introduced design trends with global impact to visitors this year. Turkish Design, Design-Economy Relationship, Design and Production in Small and Large Industries, Entrepreneurship, Craftsmanship, Industrial Design, Luxury Design, Visual Communication Design, Fashion design and other subjects that create the Design Ecosystems were discussed in detail during Design Week Turkey, which had ‘Design Ecosystem’ as its main theme. 

A total of 52,300 visitors attended, 80 speeches were given, and 27 panels and conferences were hosted during Design Week Turkey, Turkey’s most comprehensive design event which brings all creative industries together. In addition, art lovers were able to visit 26 exhibitions and installations along with 16 studio works.

 A workshop titled “Free Fabric Outside the Norm” with Fırat Neziroğlu, a faculty member of Textile and Fashion Design Department of our university, as the executive, also took part in Design Week Turkey. Participants weaved their own fabric alongside Fırat Neziroğlu during the workshop in which the art of weaving is interpreted with an artistic perspective and innovative approaches to the design process are discussed.
