Mate for men, and sage for women for a healthy brain



Dr. Ender Saraç, Nutritionist and Dietitian, recommends men to drink mate tea and women to drink sage tea for a healthy brain, and said, “Sage contains Omega-3 and is especially beneficial to women with concentration problems. Mate is more appropriate for men’s physiology.”

20% of the fat in the brain consists of Omega 3, also called DHA. Scientists state that consuming the right food at the right time makes the greatest contribution to development of intelligence and concentration. At this point, it is reported that some nutrients are of greater importance compared to others for a powerful memory, development of intelligence and keeping the brain active. It is also stated that Turkey is one of the countries where Omega-3 level, which helps the brain to be strong and fresh and contributes to mental development, is lowest.

OMEGA 3: BRAIN NUTRIENT

Dr. Ender Saraç, Nutritionist and Dietitian, made valuable explanations about the nutrients beneficial to brain development in the 3rd Neuroscience Congress held on 14 and 15 December at Nişantaşı University, and emphasized omega-3 is the nutrient for brain. He also added, “It is mostly found in fish such as herring, sardine, anchovy, salmon and trout. Also, walnut, chia and flax seeds, purslane are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. B12 and Vitamin D3 are vital for brain development, too. If we take these at a small amount, it will cause the lack of fuel of our brain.”

SAGE: SOURCE OF OMEGA-3

Dr. Ender Saraç stated that sage, full of Omega-3, makes great contribution to memory, and reported that it is the number one natural medicine for women especially with concentration problems, it reduces daily stress, and strengthens the connection among brain neurons.

MATE MORE APPROPRIATE FOR MEN

Dr. Ender Saraç also stated that mate is more appropriate for men’s physiology and added, “There is natural caffeine in mate. Caffeine is a great stimulant for the brain. Mate does not have any risk of increasing the blood pressure suddenly, as coffee does. It is seen that a huge majority of healthy people in Latin America drink mate. Similarly, matcha tea is beneficial to brain, intelligence and memory.”

FOOD BENEFICIAL TO BRAIN

Dr. Saraç told that learning new things or solving puzzles operate the brain, and added,  “We do not use our brain anymore. Social media has swept away our thinking and dreaming abilities. In addition, olfactory nerve is the only nerve exiting the brain. Therefore, putting sesame oil on your nose helps stop forgetfulness. Olives, pressed olive oil, dates, unprocessed fresh meat, cardamom, blueberry, turmeric, broccoli, and bitter chocolate are among other food beneficial to brain.”

Dr. Ender Saraç explained, “Our brain is like a computer. We store all necessary and unnecessary things in our memory. A while later, memory is filled with too many things. For that reason, there are some methods to relax our mind” and added as follows: 

“A good sleep, regular exercise, meditation or religious service can relax your mind, but if you are in depression, serotonin levels in blood decrease. That serotonin level does not increase no matter what you do. In such cases, natural antidepressants such as hypericum or 5-HTP increase serotonin level in blood. If you want to enhance the brain capacity, the only thing you should do is to forgive. Brain cells of a person who does not forgive do not operate efficiently. Situations we cannot forgive slow brain down most. A heart with full of love also relaxes brain.”
