The effect of “window dressing” to increase the sales

The leading factor influencing fashion consumers’ preferences is designs of windows and aisles of the stores. In this sense, an attractive design of window and aisle of the stores influence the customers as a quiet sales assistant. The students of Textile and Fashion Design Department of Nişantaşı University, who would like to attract attention to right window design, held a “Visual Merchandising Student Exhibition”, led by Lecturer Ferhat Dumanlı.

Lecturer Ferhat Duman stated that the first window display in Turkey was held in Nişantaşı University, and explained how a good window design should be. “Both textile products and windows have changed as many other things have changed in the globalized world. Especially, window design is of great importance in establishing a bond with and attracting the customers into a store. There should be neither many nor a few products in a well-designed window. It is same for the materials used. We can tell all should have a certain amount. However, visual designs should be made in the windows that will definitely attract customers’ attention that will direct them into a store”, he added.


Lecturer Ferhat Dumanlı highlighted that visual merchandising and window design is an enjoyable job with high income. He also explained, “Penetration of foreign brands into Turkish market has created a change in this field. The more the number of stores has increased, the higher the need for window designers have gotten. One who would like to do this job certainly needs to be highly creative. They should be a good observer and produce a concept with everything around. They also need to be aware of the fact that this job is a work of art. If they can do their job with love and from the heart, they can be successful at this field”.

The exhibition will be on until Thursday, 9 January, in Exhibition Center of Faculty of Art and Design.
