Dear Students,

We are excited to welcome you to a new academic year in the English Preparatory Program at Istanbul Nişantaşı University, Foreign Languages Department. As you begin this journey, we would like to share important information about how your progress will be assessed and why your books and online platforms are essential to your success.

Assessment and Evaluation

Your performance in each module will be evaluated as follows:

Mid-Level Progress Test (20%)
A written exam in the middle of the module. It tests listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar.

End-of-the-Module Test (40%)

A comprehensive exam at the end of the module. It covers al skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking, vocabulary, and grammar.

Projects (10%)
Each module includes:

-Two Speaking Tasks (3%) – short speaking activities whr you present ideas clearly and fluently.
-Two Writing Tasks (3%) – short in-class written assignments.
-One Presentation (4%) – a prepared talk using slides, delivered in class.

Participation (10%)
Based on attendance, active involvement in class, preparation, respectful behavior, use of English, and consistent effort.

Online Assignments (20%)
Independent study tasks completed on digital platforms. These provide extra practice and count towards your grade:

• Cambridge English Empower – 5 points
   

• Sensations English – 5 points
   

• Unlock Reading & Writing – 5 points
   

• Unlock Listening & Speaking – 5 points

Online Assignment Deadlines

12 October 2025 (revised to 24 October)

26 October 2025

9 November 2025

22 November 2025

Please note that the deadline for the first assignment has been extended once only, to alow extra time for students who have not yet received their books.
No further extensions will be given, so please make sure to complete your tasks on time.

Your course books are at the heart of the program. Each module is built around the units in your books, and exams and tasks are based on them. Following your books carefully is the best way to be prepared for both tests and projects.

Online Platforms 

-Cambridge One (for Empower and Unlock) provides personalized practice with instant feedback.

-Sensations English offers news-based videos, articles, and exercises at your level.

Together with your books, these platforms give you a complete and well-rounded learning experience.
