ABOUT THE EVENT Event Name: Advanced Recycling Practices in Denim Waste Management Training Event Venue: Istanbul Nişantaşı University Event Date: November 6-8, 2024 Event Objectives and Scope: The objectives of the "Advanced Recycling Practices in Denim Waste Management Training" are to contribute to the scientific development of undergraduate students in the Department of Textile and Fashion Design by:

• increasing their knowledge about developments, ongoing studies, and emerging methods in upcycle design and sustainable denim production within the framework of sustainable fashion as opposed to fast fashion;
• supporting the development of skills in upcycle design and sustainable denim production by providing participants with the opportunity to experience the theoretical knowledge and new methods acquired during the training through practical studies.

"Upcycling" is used as a tool to reduce the amount of waste generated by the increase in consumption associated with advancing technology and rapid population growth, and to replace the linear economy of use-and-dispose with a circular economy based on longer use of resources and recycling. It has been observed that end-of-life garments and textile waste can be transformed into high-value fashion products through sustainable production methods. Upcycling fashion has recently been spreading in the fashion industry and has begun to become a trend with the growing consumer awareness of sustainability and changing consumption habits. With the spread of this trend, gaining knowledge and developing skills about national and international developments, the use of different materials, and different production techniques and design approaches has become increasingly important. Within the scope of the "Advanced Recycling Practices in Denim Waste Management Training" we will organize, theoretical knowledge on the concept and techniques of upcycling in fashion and textile design will be provided, national and international upcycling design examples in fashion design will be shared, and practical work will be carried out. Through the training program, participants are expected to develop their understanding and skills in upcycling in sustainable fashion through a design workshop. EVENT TEAMS Project Coordinator: Asst. APPLICATION CONDITIONS: The capacity is limited to 24 participants. Undergraduate students studying in the departments of Textile and Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Design, or Fashion and Textile Design at different universities in Istanbul will be accepted to the event. The following criteria will be taken into account in determining the participants to be accepted to the event:

• Being enrolled as an undergraduate student in the departments of Textile and Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Design, or Fashion and Textile Design at different universities in Istanbul,
• Being registered with up-to-date information in the TÜBİTAK Researcher Information System (ARBİS) database,
• Not having previously participated in a similar training program supported by TÜBİTAK 2237-A.

Applications for the "Advanced Recycling Practices in Denim Waste Management Training" will be received through the application system to be published on the website. During the evaluation of applicants, ranking will be carried out taking into account academic achievement and application date.
