ABOUT THE EVENT Event Name: Climate-Friendly Fashion: Training on Practices for Reducing Carbon Footprint Event Venue: Istanbul Nişantaşı University Event Date: October 23-25, 2024 Event Objectives and Scope: For undergraduate students receiving education in the field of fashion and textile design:

• to raise awareness about developments related to sustainability in the textile and fashion sector and the EU Green Deal Targets,
• to gain knowledge about national and international developments aimed at reducing the carbon footprint in the design, production, distribution, and consumption processes of the fashion industry,
• to acquire knowledge about next-generation sustainable materials that are developing and can be used in the textile and fashion sector,
• to gain knowledge about methods that are compatible with zero-waste principles and recycling/upcycling approaches in the textile and fashion sector and that are being used and becoming widespread nationaly and internationaly,
• to experience the design and production of sustainable and climate-sensitive textile and fashion products using next-generation materials,
• to be encouraged, as future professionals in the textile and fashion sector, to promote the design and production of sustainable and climate-sensitive textile and fashion products using next-generation materials.

Within the scope of the event, in relation to the "environmental impacts of the fashion industry", the high levels of water, energy, and chemical consumption caused by the fashion industry, as well as problems in production and waste management, will be examined. The targets set for the textile and fashion sector within the EU Green Deal will be analyzed, and how these targets can contribute to the transformation of the sector will be discussed. In line with the "Climate-Friendly Fashion" approach, the impact of transformation strategies such as the circular economy model, innovative materials, clean technologies, and the zero-waste approach on reducing the carbon footprint in the textile and fashion industries will be examined. Participants will gain knowledge about sustainable material slction, sustainable production techniques and design approaches, and methods that are developing and becoming widespread in support of the circular economy; they will be enabled to experience the process of designing fashion products using vegan/biomaterial-based next-generation materials by applying their acquired knowledge and skills. As a result of theoretical training delivered by expert academics and experienced industry representatives, along with hands-on workshop sessions, the aim is to increase the sustainable and innovative design and production capacities of the fashion designers of the future. APPLICATION CONDITIONS: The capacity is limited to 24 participants. Undergraduate students studying in the departments of Textile and Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Design, or Fashion and Textile Design at different universities in Istanbul will be accepted to the event. The following criteria will be taken into account in determining the participants to be accepted to the event:

• Being enrolled as an undergraduate student in the departments of Textile and Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Design, or Fashion and Textile Design at different universities in Istanbul,
• Being registered with up-to-date information in the TÜBİTAK Researcher Information System (ARBİS) database,
• Not having previously participated in a similar training program supported by TÜBİTAK 2237-A.

Applications for the "Climate-Friendly Fashion: Training on Practices for Reducing Carbon Footprint" will be received through the application system to be published on the website. During the evaluation of applicants, ranking will be carried out taking into account academic achievement and application date.
