Students Meet History Through the “From April 23 to November 10: Atatürk and Our Republic” Social Responsibility Project
As part of the social responsibility project titled “From April 23 to November 10: Atatürk and Our Republic” conducted in the Sarıyer district, a special event was organized with third-grade students from Uğur Erkey Primary School within the 2025 program. The event was held under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Göknur Akçadağ, Head of the Department of History at our university, and as part of a BAP-supported social responsibility project carried out in collaboration with the Sarıyer District Directorate of National Education for the past two years.
The program began with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Selma Karatepe, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. Following the opening remarks, an engaging and informative discussion session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Göknur Akçadağ, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hakan Yıldız, and Research Assistant Ali Ceylan.
During the session, topics such as the significance of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, the meaning of National Sovereignty and Children’s Day celebrated on April 23, and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s emphasis on science and education were discussed with the students.
At the end of the program, which was also attended by administrators from the Sarıyer District Directorate of National Education, students received commemorative gifts in celebration of the holiday. The event was supported by Umur Stationery, which sponsored notebooks, coloring pencils, and folder sets.
The activity provided students with an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of history while also experiencing the joy and spirit of the national holiday.
This meaningful gathering contributed to reinforcing students’ appreciation of Atatürk and helped foster an early awareness of the values and principles of the Republic.
