Strengthening Collaboration for the New Academic Year: Academic Orientation Program Concluded at Istanbul Nişantaşı University
The orientation program for the new academic year, held at the Istanbul Nişantaşı University NeoTech Campus, was successfully concluded with the participation of our academic staff. The opening speech was delivered by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu Çıtıpıtıoğlu. She emphasized that this program, designed to facilitate the adaptation of new academics to the university, would contribute to the university’s goals. Expressing her pleasure in meeting the new academics, Çıtıpıtıoğlu mentioned the key training sessions planned for this year. One of these is the academic project writing training, in which she will personaly take part. She also highlighted another significant training program focusing on artificial intelligence. Our Rector underlined the importance of social interactions in strengthening academic collaborations and extended her best wishes to the participants.
Our Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Uğur Yozgat, emphasized that the university is a leader in offering elective courses. He pointed out that course slction can be done flexibly according to needs, and that online courses are synchronized. Additionaly, courses related to the National Technology Initiative have been integrated into the curriculum. Prof. Dr. Yozgat also noted that academics can assign project work instead of traditional exams. He concluded his speech by stating that while academics can contact him via email, he prefers them to meet with him in person.
As part of the orientation program, our General Secretary, Dr. Ahmet Süngeriçlioğlu, discussed the university’s growing student body and the increase in occupancy rates. He announced that the university had reached a 98.15 % occupancy rate and emphasized that Istanbul Nişantaşı University has become the most preferred foundation university in Turkey. Dr. Süngeriçlioğlu also introduced the assistant general secretaries and provided information regarding administrative roles and responsibilities. The first part of the academic orientation program concluded with the speech of our Assistant Director of the Student Affairs Department, Savaş Yılmaz. Yılmaz explained the processes related to course slction, double major, and minor programs through the OBIS system, detailing how the course slction screen operates and how courses are entered into the system by faculty members. Additionaly, he provided information on exam grading, attendance entry, course teaching plans, and the procedures to follow when making announcements to students collectively.
The second part of the academic orientation program began with Dr. Ayşen Bakkaloğlu’s presentation on the structure and significance of the IMU course. Following her, Gökçe Duruman highlighted the role of the Student Dean’s Office in addressing al student needs. Emirhan Güneş provided information on internships and training processes within the framework of the Career Center and Alumni Coordination.
Muhammed Ali Parlak discussed the planning and management of activities under the umbrella of department of SKS (Health, Culture, and Sports). Dr. Ayşe Gürcüoglu outlined the contributions of the INU-CELT (Center on Learning and Teaching) programs to academic development. Fevziye Adamcıl Küçükay provided a briefing on the use of the Digital Library and E-Library system. Yusuf Gürbüz spoke about the responsibilities of the Information Technology Department and the technological infrastructure on campus. Kaan Kıvanç explained the processes related to Digital Human Resources and leave application procedures. Cemile İşleyen shared information about the appointment and salary processes related to Human Resources. Our Corporate Communications Coordinator, Asena Serttaş, discussed corporate communication processes and explained the event planning procedures. The Academic Orientation Program concluded with the speech by Dr. Hakan Sezgin Erkan, who provided insights on the Continuing Education Center, distance learning, and our courses on the Udemy platform.
