Art is one of the most basic elements in child development

Finding activities that will both support the development of children and alow them to have a good time is one of the most difficult processes for parents. Nişantaşı University Child Development Department Faculty Member Dr. Fatma Özkür evaluated the place of art in child development.

Parents began to search for activities that would help their children have a good time and increase their creativity and productivity. Leading arts institutions organize a series of events for children in the most creative period of their lives, whr they can both express themselves and experience creative ways such as play, music and painting.

Emphasizing the importance of using techniques that include artistic activities in child education, supporting children's creativity and enabling them to discover their existing talents, Dr. Fatma Özkür said: "Art in child development reflects the child's inner world, reaches spiritual satisfaction, develops problem-solving skills and helps them to focus a task. Therefore, it is very important to apply artistic activities in the developmental processes of the child, which forms the basis of life, and she made suggestions in order to live this period productively.

Some of the semester activities compiled from various sources for children aged 6-14 are as follows:

Workshops with experts

Preparing a colorful and art-filled calendar during the semester break, Istanbul Modern offers children the opportunity to hold workshops at their homes with museum experts. The workshops, which will take place for al children between the ages of 4 and 12, begin with a Virtual Tour screening of Istanbul Modern's temporary exhibitions "In Search of the Present" and "Selma Gürbüz: A Place Caled the World", "Şakir Eczacıbaşı: Selected Moments". Workshops will continue until February 4.

IKSV, which prepares programs for children in the fields of mask making, music, architecture, mapping and newspaper culture with a total of 10 workshops, offers free programs for 6-8 and 9-12 age grps, which will be held every weekday until February 4.

Museums are a click away

MetKids, inspired by children aged 7-12 within the Metropolitan Museum of Art, alows you to visit the museum interactively on the illustrative map, explore the works in the museum, travel through 5000 years of art history with a time machine, and produce creative projects at home. In addition, children visiting the museum can discover interesting facts about many subjects, from dragons to mummies, which always keep their interest alive.

The Tate museum, whr the world's most famous contemporary works are exhibited, offers children the opportunity to experience more than a museum with the contents of Tate Kids, the virtual museum created especialy for children. Thanks to Tate Kids, which provides access to many artistic activities from cut-paste and various painting activities to game-quiz and art discovery, children will develop their imagination and expand their horizons while spending time at home.

Enjoy watching the art from the stage

In February, many theater and stage activities are presented together for art-loving children. The story of the Ugly Duckling, who was not like his other siblings when he was born and thought everyone was making fun of him, will take the stage on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 15.00 at Caddebostan Cultural Center.

The musical Cinderella, which is a classic work, will be adapted and directed by Oktay Şenol on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Akasya Culture and Art between 13.00-15.00. This game, which is unforgettable for children who love classic fairy tales, is among the activities that children can participate in with pleasure.

The adventure of Painter Memo to find his favorite brush is staged in the children's theater named "Da Vinci Said To Me", which will be staged at the Istanbul Toy Museum on February 12, 2022 at 10:00. With this fantastic children's play accompanied by object puppets and live music, the secrets of Da Vinci are opened and the children embark on a journey full of adventures.

Ecological life for children

In the “Children Producing Ecology Workshop” to be held as part of the Istanbul Children's Festival, children understand how human life and nature are interconnected, and learn about sustainable ecological lifestyles. In this workshop, the trainers introduce the plants to the children, show them how to touch them and let them witness the process of turning a seed into a plant. Children who plant their own seeds in the workshop gain responsibility by taking care of the plants themselves. In this way, children who develop their curiosity and imagination gain the ability to work effectively in different teams by increasing their speed and harmony balance. The workshop will continue to be held at the Watergarden Performance Center at 10:00 until February 3.

For al the dolls of the World

Rahmi Koç Museum hosts the World Dolls Exhibition. The exhibition sheds light on the journey of dolls, the most important milestone of the toy industry, from Antiquity to the present. From wooden dolls of the 18th century to rag dolls of Anatolia, from Asian and African faith dolls to fashion dolls, and even silk-dressed festival dolls of the Far East, very special examples are on display. Children have the opportunity to participate in various activities in the exhibition, which explains the purpose of use of the concept of doll since prehistoric times and reveals the great transformation that the baby industry has undergone over the centuries.

Colorful events at Miniatürk

A series of activities await children on Sunday, February 27 at Miniatürk, which offers its visitors a tour of Turkey with miniature models of 136 architectural works. Little visitors will have the opportunity to learn while having fun, with a colorful and full program from animation to concerts, from workshops to street plays, from canto to illusion.
