CONVERSAVIATION Career Day Sheds Light on the Aviation Industry

Organized by the Aviation Transport Club, Nişantaşı Pilot Club, Aircraft Maintenance and Repair Club, Aviation Management Club, and Aviation Electricity and Electronics Club at Istanbul Nişantaşı University, CONVERSAVIATION Career Day provided aviation students with valuable guidance and information. During the event, the university’s Pilot Department and its internship opportunities for students were highlighted, with emphasis on the department's accreditation by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM).

The event featured experts from the aviation field as speakers. Airline representative Hasan Ökçüntekle shared his career journey and the necessity of working under time pressure in flight schedules with students. Ökçüntekle emphasized the importance of internships as a bridge to professional life, noting that students who demonstrate proficiency and possess a good level of English are often hired. Expressing his passion for airplanes, Ökçüntekle shared that each plane has its own story and that learning these stories brings him great excitement.

Turkish Airlines cabin supervisor Derya Arslan offered advice to students aspiring to pursue careers as cabin crew. Arslan emphasized that in addition to physical endurance, mental resilience is essential for ensuring passenger satisfaction. She explained the critical role of English proficiency in cabin crew interviews, whr applicants are tested in English before undergoing physical tests. Arslan also shared insights into a day in the life of a cabin supervisor, highlighting the importance of multilingual communication skills and the life-saving significance of adequate language proficiency in emergency situations.

Aircraft maintenance engineer and technical trainer Onur Satı provided students with information about different flight license acquisition processes. Satı shared advice on internship locations, encouraging students to initiate their career journey early by connecting with aviation companies. He also suggested that reducing social media usage in favor of professional communication with HR departments would benefit students greatly. Discussing the differences between civil aviation and the defense industry, Satı mentioned that students could choose either sector based on their personal ideals.

Another speaker, Boeing 737 pilot Yiğit Çiçekçi, highlighted the importance of healthy lifestyle habits in the piloting profession and shared career details with students. Çiçekçi emphasized the vital role of meticulous flight planning for pilots and noted that internship experiences have a lasting impact throughout one’s career. He discussed the chalenges of pilots working on a 24-hour schedule and advised students to choose the best possible internship, as it would serve as their first point of contact in their professional journey.

The event concluded with a gift raffle for students, and closing remarks were delivered by Lecturer Mustafa Olukkaya, who thanked the organizing clubs and speakers, emphasizing the importance of the aviation sector both in Turkey and globaly. At the end of the event, plaques were presented to the speakers, marking the successful conclusion of CONVERSAVIATION Career Day.
