The International Cultural Gastronomy Workshop titled “Cultural Unity in the Journey of Bread,” organised in collaboration with the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at Istanbul Nişantaşı University and the Consulate General of the Philippines, transformed the kitchen into a meeting point for different cultures.
With the contributions of Consul General of the Philippines Christina Rola McKennan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilistan Shipman, Chair of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, the event introduced students to the traditional flavours of Filipino cuisine.
During the workshop, which was attended by the Consul General of the Philippines, an experienced Filipino master baker met with students and demonstrated the preparation processes of two traditional Filipino breads, while also explaining the cultural heritage associated with them. Throughout the process, from preparing the dough to applying baking techniques, students not only learned a recipe but also had the opportunity to gain a closer understanding of Filipino dining traditions, the culture of sharing and everyday life rituals.
The authentic Filipino delicacies served at the end of the workshop gave participants the opportunity to experience this rich culinary culture. By transforming the universal language of gastronomy into a powerful bridge between cultures, the event once again demonstrated the university’s commitment to international collaboration and cultural diversity.
