Fourth-year students of the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of İstanbul Nişantaşı University organized an academic visit to Dolmabahçe Palace within the scope of the Measured Drawing (Rölöve) course.

The visit, guided by Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Özlem Özkan Önür and Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Gülşen Altınsoy, provided students with the opportunity to examine historical structures on site and observe the architectural details of cultural heritage buildings.

Built between 1843 and 1856 by Sultan Abdülmecid, Dolmabahçe Palace reflects a blend of Ottoman, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles. The main building consists of three sections: Mabeyn-i Hümayun (Selamlık), Muayede Hal (Ceremonial Hal), and Harem-i Hümayun. While Mabeyn-i Hümayun was used for state administration, Harem-i Hümayun was reserved for the private life of the Sultan and his family. Located between these two sections, the Muayede Hal was used for official ceremonies and religious celebrations.

The palace’s façade design, interior spatial organization, structural systems, and decorative details were examined with great interest. Through on-site observation, students strengthened their awareness of documenting and preserving cultural heritage. Such technical visits play a significant role in architectural education by enhancing professional competence and fostering historical and environmental awareness.
