As part of the İNÜ-CELT training sessions, the hybrid event titled “Ethical and Efficient Student Practices with Artificial Intelligence” was successfully completed with high attendance. The training aimed to help students understand the significance of artificial intelligence in both academic and professional settings. The event began with an opening speech by Dr. Ayşe Gürcüoğlu. The keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Başal, provided a broad perspective, starting from the history of artificial intelligence and extending to its current applications.
Prof. Dr. Başal emphasized the significant changes in the workforce with the integration of AI into corporate systems. He highlighted the evolving employment dynamics and how students will eventualy enter this competitive environment. Additionaly, he stressed the importance of the ethical use of AI and warned of the potential harm that could arise if the technology is used for malicious purposes. Prof. Dr. Başal also noted that, when used correctly, AI can ease workloads and help achieve goals more efficiently.
One of the key topics discussed was language models. Prof. Dr. Başal explained how language models work, clarifying that these models do not “understand” sentences in the way humans do but rather generate responses based on probabilities through statistical calculations. He spoke about the many advantages AI offers and emphasized the importance of using the right commands. Prof. Dr. Başal explained the details of prompt engineering with practical examples.
Lastly, Prof. Dr. Başal focused on the effective use of AI tools. He shared various AI applications that simplify daily tasks, such as writing tools, note-taking, and presentation preparation. The training helped participants become more aware of AI, encouraging them to use it ethicaly and equipping them with in-depth knowledge on its ethical implications.
