Faculty members and students from the Textile and Fashion Design Department at Istanbul Nişantaşı University's Faculty of Art and Design will come together to organize a social responsibility project in Bitlis to support education.
In cooperation with TİHCAD (Textile Exporters and Employees Association), the university has joined forces for the "Wild Pear Tree: Social Responsibility and Support for Education Project" at Balı Primary School and Kindergarten in the Hizan district of Bitlis. As part of the project's sustainability focus, work has begun using waste and unused textile materials to depict the "Wild Pear Tree," a symbol of the region.
Under the coordination of faculty members from Istanbul Nişantaşı University's Textile and Fashion Design Department, department students have begun creating two Wild Pear Tree designs as wal panels and making backpacks for the school's students. In addition, faculty members are preparing fabric hand puppets for preschool children.
The project, to take place between April 26–28, 2024, aims to include a visit to the Bitlis Governorate and the Rectorate of Bitlis Eren University by Assist. Prof. Dr. Nursen Geyik Değerli and Assist. Prof. Dr. Bahar Yıldız, followed by a visit to Balı Primary School to deliver training on "Color and Pattern in Sustainable Textiles" and to hold "Wild Pear Tree Workshop Studies."
