On 28 April 2026, the panel titled "Look-Alike and Sound-Alike Medicines and the Potential Risks" was organised under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Emrah İpek and hosted by INU Faculty of Medicine, with the participation of Prof. Dr. Fadime Çınar, Pharmacologist and Pharmacist Vedat Eğilmez, and Pharmacologist and Pharmacist Betül Şerefoğlu Ak.

The panel addressed the risks posed by Look-Alike / Sound-Alike (LASA) medicines, which are frequently encountered in clinical practice, together with real case examples and their effects on patient safety. Expert speakers comprehensively evaluated the precautions that should be taken at every stage, beginning with medicine naming processes and continuing through prescribing, administration and monitoring.

In line with the safety strategies recommended by the World Health Organization and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, the event also emphasised the importance of increasing awareness among healthcare professionals, strengthening educational processes and expanding system-based solutions.

As an important part of our patient-safety-centred approach, this panel made valuable contributions to our medical education and clinical practices.
