The "Quality Culture in Universities" seminar held at our university began with an opening speech by the Quality and Governance Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gözde Mert. In her speech, Dr. Mert emphasized that quality culture in higher education institutions is not limited to academic success but serves as an essential foundation in areas such as student satisfaction, research capacity, societal contributions, and internal efficiency. Highlighting the importance of making quality processes a way of life for both institutions and individuals, Dr. Mert noted that a sustainable approach to quality is a key tool for universities to achieve their strategic goals.
Prof. Dr. Funda Şerifoğlu, Founding Rector of Düzce University and YÖKAK Team Leader, addressed the dynamics of quality processes and their significance in the higher education system. Emphasizing that “Quality is a way of life, not an obligation,” Prof. Dr. Şerifoğlu underlined the critical role of increasing quality awareness and adopting quality culture across al university stakeholders for sustainable development in higher education. She also discussed the functioning of quality assurance systems, their integration with strategic planning, and the contributions of a continuous improvement mindset to academic and administrative processes in universities.
Throughout the seminar, important topics were addressed, including best practices for implementing quality processes in higher education, the role of the PDCA Cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act) in quality management, and how strategic planning can be integrated with quality assurance systems. Participants were reminded that quality processes are not just a goal but a roadmap for universities to achieve success.
At the end of the seminar, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu Çıtıpıtıoğlu, presented Prof. Dr. Funda Şerifoğlu with flowers and a certificate of appreciation for her valuable contributions to higher education. The event once again highlighted our university’s commitment to quality processes and its quality-focused approach.
