A delightful and inspiring talk was held with renowned chef, author, and television presenter Refika Birgül, hosted by the Gastronomy Department of Istanbul Nişantaşı University.
During the talk, Refika Birgül shared the story of her journey with food — from her early passion to writing her first cookbook, her path toward becoming a chef, launching her TV programs, and developing her career as a writer. Emphasizing that she sees cooking as a form of self-expression, Birgül also spoke about her educational background, how her first published book led to newspaper columns, and how her life transformed through media opportunities.
Creating an interactive atmosphere, she engaged with students by asking questions and rewarding those with correct answers with smal gifts. The conversation also covered topics such as the future of Turkish cuisine, the rise of vegan cuisine, and how her interest in Turkish food began.
At the end of the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilistan Shipman, Head of the Gastronomy Department, presented Refika Birgül with a plaque and flowers in appreciation of her participation. The session concluded with a lively Q&A, drawing great interest from the students.
Istanbul Nişantaşı University remains committed to bringing inspiring figures from the culinary world together with students and guiding the next generation of chefs.
