The LAMA2-RD (Laminin alpha-2 related dystrophy) Conference, hosted by the Faculty of Medicine at Istanbul Nişantaşı University, was successfully held with strong participation at the Maslak NeoTech Campus between March 27–29, 2026.

Organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Haluk Topaloğlu, the conference brought together clinicians, researchers, patient associations, and families from 17 different countries. Throughout the three-day event, the clinical manifestations, treatment processes, and latest scientific developments regarding LAMA2-RD—a rare and progressive muscle disease—were comprehensively discussed.

Experts highlighted the significant progress made in the field of neuromuscular diseases in recent years, emphasizing that advancements in SMA treatment offer promising prospects for similar conditions.

Within the scope of the conference, a special training program titled “Neuromuscular Diseases for Young Enthusiasts” was also organized for pediatric neurologists.

The organization, implemented through the collaboration of the LAMA2-RD network, Maastricht University, and Istanbul Nişantaşı University, made valuable contributions to supporting scientific research, enhancing academic knowledge sharing, and bringing together international experts on a common platform.

This strong collaboration not only contributed at the academic level but also encompassed awareness efforts for patients and their families, fostering the development of multidisciplinary approaches and paving the way for sustainable solutions for rare diseases.
