The LAMA2-RD (Laminin alpha-2-related dystrophy) Conference, hosted by İstanbul Nişantaşı University Faculty of Medicine, was successfully completed with strong participation at the Maslak NeoTech Campus between 27 and 29 March 2026.
Organised under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Haluk Topaloğlu, the conference brought together clinicians, researchers, patient associations and families from 17 different countries. During the three-day event, the clinical findings, treatment processes and latest scientific developments relating to LAMA2-RD, a rare and progressive muscle disease, were discussed comprehensively.
Experts drew attention to the progress made in the field of neuromuscular diseases in recent years and particularly emphasised that developments in SMA treatment offer hope for similar diseases.
As part of the conference, a training programme titled “Neuromuscular Diseases for Young Enthusiasts” was also organised for paediatric neurologists.
The organisation, implemented through the cooperation of the LAMA2-RD network, Maastricht University and İstanbul Nişantaşı University, made significant contributions to supporting scientific research, increasing academic knowledge sharing and bringing international experts together on a common platform.
This strong collaboration laid the groundwork for the development of multidisciplinary approaches and the creation of sustainable solutions for rare diseases by encompassing not only academic activities but also awareness initiatives for patients and their families.
