Nişantaşı University held an event commemorating the world-famous Turkish poet and philosopher Nizami Ganjavi on the 880th anniversary of his birth. At the same time, a lecture hal of the university was named after Nizami Ganjavi.

Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Ganja State University Vice Rector Pervin Kerimzade, Nişantaşı University Rector Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, Azerbaijani Consul General in Istanbul Zaur Allahverdizada, Ganja State University Innovation President and International Relations Officer Vasif Hasanov, the General Counselor of the Rector of Ganja State University Asif Javadov, Rector’s Private Secretary Elsever Nagiyev, Student Council President Perviz Adigozalov, many national and foreign press organizations, academics and students attended to the event held at the university.

“LONG LIVE THE AZERBAIJAN AND TURKEY FRIENDSHIP”

Speaking at the event, the Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan Pervin Kerimzade said, “I am very proud of the brotherhood of Azerbaijan and Turkey. These two countries have always been one. Our language and religion are one; They have always been one throughout history. It is our greatest target to wave the flags of Turkey and Azerbaijan. With Turkey’s moral and political support, the flag of Azerbaijan was hung in Karabakh. We commemorate al our martyred brothers and sisters with great mercy. These two countries have always shared their moral and political support. The Turk has no friend other than the Turk. I would like to thank Nişantaşı University for organizing this great program. When the university students see the name Nizami Ganjavi, they will learn how great personalities the Turkish World has raised. Nizami Ganjavi is an important figure whose name should be known worldwide. Long live the friendship between Azerbaijan and Turkey.”

“ART AND LITERATURE ARE THE COLLECTIVE MEMORY OF A NATION”

Feeling emotional during the program, Nişantaşı University Rector Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın said, “Art and literature are the collective memory of a nation, in other words, its cultural heritage. It tells the story of a nation’s past, present, and future. The great philosopher and poet Nizami Ganjavi is also an important person who has a unique place among the supporters of the Turkish nation cultural heritage. 2021 was the Year of Nizami in Azerbaijan; events were held in many countries, as in Azerbaijan, to honor his name and convey his ideas to the younger generation. We wanted to support and contribute to these events. For this reason, we are together at Nişantaşı University with very valuable administrators and academicians from Ganja State University of the ancient Turkish city Ganja, which is the birthplace of Nizami.”

“GREETINGS TO GANJA”

Prof. Dr. Yalçın ended his words as follows: “We were in deep sorrow for Azerbaijan and other Turkish countries when they were living under the pressure of Soviet Russia until 30 years ago, and our hearts beat for them to be independent. Their hearts were beating with the same feelings. The national poet of Azerbaijan, Ahmet Cevat from Ganja, wrote the poem “The Black Sea was fluttering, looking at the Turkish flag” in 1914 with these feelings. Therefore, I wish the opening of this hal, with which we will honor the name of Nizami Ganjavi, to be encouraging, and our young students who will take classes in this hal be successful, and I say, Greetings to Ganja! Greetings to Baku! Greetings to Azerbaijan! Greetings to the Turkish World!”
