An exhibition organized within the scope of the Visual Merchandising and Window Display Design course conducted under the Employment Academies of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality by the Head of the Public Relations and Promotion Program at Istanbul Nişantaşı University Vocational School met visitors at the SEKA Paper Museum.

Titled “Time, Art and Interpretation: Narratives in Window Display Design,” the exhibition represents a practice-based academic study that approaches window display design not merely as a commercial presentation area, but as a form of cultural, artistic, and narrative expression.

The window display designs featured in the exhibition were structured around themes inspired by diverse historical, artistic, and cultural references. Within this framework, students interpreted concepts of time and cyclicality through the Chinese Calendar – Year of the Horse, while themes of creation, alienation, and identity were explored through Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein using the language of window design. The Frida Kahlo theme focused on individual expression, the body, and belonging.

Additionaly, themes of modernization, consumer culture, and spectacle were translated into window displays through The Great Gatsby, while references to Füreya Koral examined the relationship between ceramic art, space, and interdisciplinary production. The Semiha Berksoy theme was transformed into window narratives within the context of performing arts, identity, and artistic storytelling.

Developed in line with a practice-based learning approach, the exhibition enabled students to combine theoretical knowledge with creative design processes and gain public exhibition experience. In this respect, the event stands out as a high-quality educational outcome realized through university–local government collaboration.
