Ayşegül Komsuoğlu Çıtıpıtıoğlu graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics, Department of International Relations in 1997. That same year, she began her graduate studies and was appointed as a research assistant in the Department of International Relations from which she had graduated. She then continued her work as a research assistant at the Faculty of Political Sciences. She completed her doctorate in 2003 at Istanbul University's Institute of Social Sciences with a thesis titled "Political Leadership and the Case of Süleyman Demirel." As a postdoctoral researcher, she worked at Emory University's Department of Middle Eastern Studies in the United States. During the 2009–2010 academic year, she served at the University of California's Oral History Unit and at the Institute of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. In 2009, she received the title of Associate Professor in the field of "Political Life and Institutions." Following her academic studies abroad, she returned to Istanbul University's Faculty of Political Sciences. In 2014, she was promoted to full Professor.

Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu conducts research in the areas of political sociology, Turkish political life, political philosophy, public policy, and migration studies. She also has research on the relationship between art and politics. Her articles and books have been published in national and international academic journals indexed in leading indices, and she has presented papers at international academic conferences in her field. Particularly in the field of migration studies, she has prepared and managed projects aimed at public policy formation in collaboration with TÜBİTAK, EU Framework Programs, and other institutions and organizations. Prof. Dr. Komsuoğlu has also supervised more than twenty master's and doctoral theses.

Having assumed numerous administrative roles throughout her academic career, Komsuoğlu served as Vice Dean at IU Faculty of Political Sciences between 2010 and 2017. In 2017, she was appointed Dean of the same faculty; in 2020, she was reappointed to this position for a second term, serving as Dean for two consecutive terms. Komsuoğlu has carried out various studies on the structuring of education and research within the higher education system and has served as a member of numerous commissions and boards related to these studies. Among these are Istanbul University's Education Coordination Office, Quality Board Membership, and Academic Structuring Commission Membership.

Having served as a member of the TÜBİTAK SOBAG Advisory Board between 2021 and 2024, Komsuoğlu is also a member of the TÜBİTAK SOBAG Executive Board.

Prof. Dr. Komsuoğlu is a full member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA). She also continues to serve as a member of the Scientific Board of the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
